Hainan now offers visa-free entry to 85 countries!

From June 1, 2025, to May 31, 2026, citizens of Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Uruguay holding ordinary passports will be eligible for a 30-day visa-free entry to China. China will also trial a policy granting ordinary passport holders from Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain visa-free entry into China up to 30 days from June 9, 2025, to June 8, 2026.

 

So, Hainan's visa-free entry policy for ordinary passport holders of 59 countries, together with China's nationally applicable mutual visa exemption agreements (27 countries) and unilateral visa exemption policy (47 countries), enables ordinary passport holders from 85 countries to enter Hainan without a visa. The mutual visa exemption entry agreements (or unilateral visa exemption policy) take precedence over Hainan's visa-free entry policy for ordinary passport holders of 59 countries when entering Hainan.

Mutual visa free and unilateral visa free (74 countries)

 

Currently, China has executed mutual visa free agreements with 27 foreign countries. China is also implementing a unilateral visa-free policy for 47 foreign countries.

 

Ordinary passport holders from these 74 foreign countries are allowed to enter via all open ports of China (including Hainan)  without visa.

 

Country list of 74 countries, the purposes of visiting and duration of stay in China are listed below:

 

 

Currently, Hainan has direct flights with Thailand, Singapore, UAE, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and Kazakhstan. The citizens of these 10 countries can enter Hainan via direct flights without visa.

 

11 countries only eligible for Hainan 59 Country Visa Free Entry Policy

 

As of February 9th, 2024, citizens of the 59 Visa Free eligible countries holding ordinary passports may enter Hainan Province via all open ports (Haikou Meilan International Airport, Sanya Phoenix International Airport, Qionghai Boao International Airport, Yangpu Port, Haikou Port, Qinglan Port, Basuo Port, and Sanya Port) for commercial activities and trade, visit and exchange, and family reunions, receiving medical treatment, attending exhibitions, taking part in sporting events and other needs (excluding long-term working and studying) for up to 30 days without a visa. 

 

There are 11 countries are not eligible for nation-wide mutual visa free or unilateral visa free, and they are only eligible for Hainan 59 Country Visa Free Entry Policy: Canada, the Czech Republic, Indonesia, Lithuania, Mexico, the Philippines, Russia, Sweden, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine.

 

Hainan has direct flights with Russia, UK and Indonesia. The citizens of these 3 countries can enter Hainan via direct flights without visa.

 

Citizens from other 8 countries can enter Hainan without visa by taking transit flights from non-Chinese mainland cities such as Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, Singapore and Bangkok.
